Nevada's largest rent program has ended. Clark County says all funds for its Eviction Prevention and Fixed Income Rent Assistance program, formerly CHAP, are exhausted and it cannot process new or pending applications. In Reno, the Housing Authority's Homeless Prevention Program isn't taking applications because of funding limits, so the City of Reno portal and nonprofits are the places left to try.
Nevada's eviction process is unusual because a tenant must act before any hearing is set. After a 7-day pay rent or quit notice, you file a Tenant's Affidavit or tenant answer with the Justice Court to get a hearing. Missing that step can cost you the chance to reach diversion help.

Facing Eviction in Nevada?
Nevada Legal Services says the nonpayment notice is a 7-day pay rent or quit notice. You have until the close of business on the 7th day to pay, move, or file a Tenant's Affidavit with the Justice Court to request a hearing. Don't count the day you were served, weekends, holidays or days the court is closed. Other eviction notices use a 5-day unlawful detainer period counted the same way. Read the official guidance

Nevada Rent Assistance Questions
Is there a $400 rent voucher in Las Vegas?
We found no $400 rent voucher on the official pages we checked, including Clark County's program page, Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada's rental assistance list and Nevada 211. Be careful with sites that ask for payment or personal details to apply for one. Clark County's main rent program has closed, so call 211 or try the nonprofits listed on this page.
How do I apply for City of Reno rental assistance?
The city's page directs applicants to create an account on its Housing Assistance Portal, which we could not open without an account, so we can't confirm funding is available today. Washoe County's housing office at 775-325-8210 or Nevada 211 can help you check.
Is CHAP still open in Clark County?
No. Clark County says the funds are exhausted and it cannot process new or pending applications. Separately, the Eviction Diversion Program can offer rental assistance to tenants 62 or older, or on SSI because of a disability, who answer a nonpayment eviction on time.
Can a Nevada 7-day notice be stopped by paying?
Nevada Legal Services says you may pay, move or file a Tenant's Affidavit within the 7 judicial days. If you paid or tried to pay in full, you may have a defense. If you are withholding rent, you must deposit it with the court when you file the affidavit.
