Planned Parenthood Federation of America is a national organization. Its separately incorporated affiliates run health centers that offer sexual and reproductive health care, education and outreach.
Affiliates run hundreds of health centers across the country, and services vary by center. According to the organization's 2024-2025 annual report, its health centers served about 2.09 million patients.

Hormone Therapy Self-Injection
There are two types of hormone self-injections: intramuscular (IM) injections and subcutaneous (SubQ) injections.
An intramuscular injection is a way of injecting medication deep into the muscle tissue.
A subcutaneous injection is a way of injecting medication into the subcutaneous tissue that is directly under the skin.
This page doesn't have injection videos or instructions. Hormone therapy isn't offered at every health center, so ask your health center or prescriber how to inject safely and whether video or transcript instructions are available.
The Abortion Pill: What to Know
The abortion pill, also called medication abortion, uses two medicines, mifepristone and misoprostol, instead of surgery to end a pregnancy. The FDA has approved mifepristone for this use through ten weeks of pregnancy.
Abortion laws differ by state, so the abortion pill is not available everywhere. Ask a licensed health care provider what is available where you live.
How to Take the Abortion Pills and What to Expect
Follow the instructions from your health care provider and the Medication Guide that comes with the medicine. This page does not replace medical advice.
- Mifepristone is taken first. Misoprostol is taken later, at the time your provider tells you.
- Cramping and bleeding are expected after taking misoprostol. Ask your provider how to prepare and how to manage pain.
- Ask your provider about a follow-up visit, and when to call for help. The FDA says follow-up is about 7 to 14 days after taking mifepristone.
