Last checked: November 2026. Benefits Explorer is a directory. We do not provide rent money or decide who gets help, and each program makes its own decisions.
Wyoming's Emergency Rental Assistance Program ended in June 2023, and the Department of Family Services' current housing pages list no rent program in its place. Those pages cover heating bills, weatherization and homeless services instead. If you are behind on rent, there may not be a state program for your situation.
The remaining route is local. The state funds ten Community Action entities that together cover all 23 counties, though its list does not say which ones pay rent. Wyoming's own eviction timeline can be very short, because a court can order a renter out as early as the evening of the hearing.
Where to Start in Wyoming
Wyoming Community Action agencies
The state Community Services Program lists designated agencies by county, describing their work broadly as housing, emergency services and other support. Examples beyond those below: Goshen Help for Carbon, Crook, Goshen, Niobrara, Washakie and Weston counties, and Yellowstone Country Assistance Network for Hot Springs, Park and Teton. The state list has no agency phone numbers, so use this program contact or 211 to reach your agency.

Facing Eviction in Wyoming?
An Equal Justice Wyoming handout hosted by the state courts, last revised in 2015, says evictions use a forcible entry and detainer hearing, available when rent is unpaid for three days after it is due and at least three days after written notice. The hearing goes ahead even if the renter does not attend, and only two extra days are allowed before trial unless the renter gives a bond. If the court orders eviction, the move-out time falls between 5:00 p.m. on the hearing date and 30 days later. Because the handout is old, confirm current rules with Legal Aid. Free or low-cost legal help: Legal Aid of Wyoming. Call Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., or apply online. Visit website · Phone: 877-432-9955
This page is general information, not legal advice. Don't ignore a notice or court papers, because eviction deadlines can be short.

Wyoming Rent Assistance Questions
Is Wyoming ERAP still accepting applications?
No. The Department of Family Services says no payments would be made for the months after June 2023, and the portal closed June 30, 2023. The 1-877-WYO-ERAP line was for past program questions, so don't rely on it for new help.
Who helps with rent in Cheyenne or Casper?
Community Action of Laramie County covers Cheyenne and Community Action Partnership of Natrona County covers Casper. We could not verify a current rent program at either from an official page, so ask 211 for what is running and for their current contact details.
What happens at a Wyoming eviction hearing?
A judge or jury decides only whether the renter should be evicted. If the eviction is for unpaid rent and the landlord wins, the renter also owes the rent due, and possibly costs and attorney's fees if the lease says so. Going to the hearing matters, because it takes place even if you are absent.
