Last checked: November 2026. Benefits Explorer is a directory. We do not provide rent money or decide who gets help, and each program makes its own decisions.
Alaska Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC) is the center of rental help here, but most of its role is long-term: owned rental units and vouchers in 16 communities. Its Homeless Assistance Program money goes to agencies rather than individuals, so a household behind on rent needs to reach a local provider, most easily through Alaska 2-1-1.
AHFC's pandemic Rent Relief program paid landlords and utilities with federal money starting in February 2021. We found no current application for it on the AHFC pages we could open, so don't plan around it.

AHFC housing vouchers and rental units
AHFC offers owned rental units and voucher programs in 16 Alaska communities. Its waiting list status page names lists by community, including voucher lists in Fairbanks, Juneau and Mat-Su, but carries no date, so confirm with the local office before applying. This is long-term help and will not stop an eviction this month.

AHFC Statewide Homeless Housing Office
AHFC's contact point on homeless housing, which it says is open to all Alaskans. AHFC awards Homeless Assistance Program funds to agencies that aim to prevent homelessness or rapidly re-house people, not to individuals, so ask which agencies near you have funds. Facing Eviction in Alaska?
The Alaska Court System's notice to quit flyer gives 7 days to pay all the rent owed or move out when rent is unpaid, or 30 days if the home has a federally backed mortgage or is covered housing. After the notice ends, a landlord can file a Forcible Entry and Detainer case and the tenant is served a Summons. The first hearing decides only whether the tenant moves out, and a later trial covers money. A tenant who does not respond risks a default judgment. Read the official guidance
Free or low-cost legal help: Alaska Legal Services Corporation. Free civil legal help for low-income Alaskans, including eviction concerns, through its statewide intake line. A separate Landlord and Tenant Helpline staffed by volunteer attorneys is free to tenants and landlords, Monday through Thursday, 6 to 8 pm, at 855-743-1001. Visit website · Phone: 1-888-478-2572
This page is general information, not legal advice. Don't ignore a notice or court papers, because eviction deadlines can be short.
