The Salvation Army Silicon Valley
The Seniors program in San Jose is one of fun and fellowship. In addition to the daily lunch, seniors have great opportunities to participate in scheduled trips, costume parties, bingo, games, Zumba, reading and television.
Meals served daily Monday through Friday. Suggested $3.00 contribution for seniors, 60 years and older, or use a Meal Card, cost $30.00 for 11 meals. Guest are required to pay a fee of $8.00, 59 years and younger.
Activities;
-Transportation is provided to a local store. Our bus driver picks them up from our Senior Center and takes them to the store where they shop for about one hour. Afterwards, they are taken to the Senior Center for lunch.
-In addition, about 50-60 Brown Bags (groceries) are handed out each week.
-Seniors exercise every Monday morning with a Zumba trainer.
-Seniors play bingo on Tuesdays and Fridays. They can win food items, plants, and flowers.
-Seniors take trips to places such as San Juan Bautista, Sausalito, Monterey, San Francisco Wharf, Half Moon Bay, etc.
-Holidays are filled with special activities, like the short program included with lunch for Mother's Day, the BBQ on Father's Day, birthday recognition, a Halloween costume party, and Thanksgiving Day lunch.

The Sunnyvale-Mountain View Corps is a Christ-centered Corps, committed to reaching out, offering hope and healing to individuals and families torn apart by addiction, economic strife and social pressures with a special emphasis on those families in Drug/Alcohol Treatment programs.

Episcopal Senior Communities currently sponsors Senior Produce Markets that sell fresh fruits and vegetables at cost to approximately 1,000 seniors each week, most of whom are on fixed incomes. In churches, senior centers, and affordable housing sites throughout Northern California, volunteers and elders gather to buy fresh and healthy produce as well as share conversation, meals, and celebrations. Venues provide a resource center for information and referral, education, and networking.
Many of our markets have a mission within a mission: perishable leftover produce from each market is donated to another non-profit organization that serves seniors and others in need.

The Fair Oaks Nutrition Program is partially subsidized by Older American Act funds. The suggested donation for our meals is $2.50 for adults age 60 and older. The cost of meals for those under age 60 is $6.55. All older adults are welcome regardless of ability to contribute.

Mission College
The Mission College food pantry provides food to meet basic nutritional needs for individuals and families in need. Our clients are children, adults or senior citizens with limited or no income, who simply have fallen on hard times or recently unemployed and simply need assistance to make ends meet.
Distribution takes place the first Wednesday of every month in Parking Lot B from 11:00am – 2:00pm. There is no distribution in June and July due to summer vacation. See our website for the most up to date distribution schedule.

Our Daily Bread
Our Daily Bread (ODB) serves free hot meals three days a week to hungry people without qualification or restriction. Participation in the program is the same for everyone without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation or disability. Serving hours are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 11:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m. ODB is a non-profit community-supported outreach program of St. Thomas Episcopal Church that serves needy people in the area. It is staffed by one part time program director and more than 100 volunteers from the local community. Individuals, churches, businesses, service clubs and other organizations contribute regularly to the program. ODB was started in 1983. ODB currently serves over 280 diners per day.

South Palo Alto Food Closet
The Food Closet is a grocery program located at the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Room 9. This program is designed to help needy families with children or disabilities by assisting them in weekly food needs. It serves families who live in Palo Alto whose income is less than 150% of the federal poverty level. Families who come to the Food Closet may need help for a short or a long time.To receive food from the South Palo Alto Food Closet, you must receive a referral from one of our referring organizations (Palo Alto School District, The Opportunity Center, St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, Covenant Presbyterian Church, Grace Lutheran Church, St. Andrews Methodist Church, Wesley Methodist Church, Palo Alto First Christian Church, The Jewish Community Center, Unitarian Universalist Church). Families with children may receive food once a week and couples every other week. Single persons are not typically accepted, and are referred instead to the larger Palo Alto Food Closet on University Avenue.

FISH of Santa Clara
Mission: “To meet the nutritional needs of Santa Clara residents by providing emergency and monthly food assistance.†FISH (Friends in Service to Humanity) of Santa Clara is a nonprofit organization established in 1974 to provide food assistance to those in need. FISH provides two types of food assistance: One-time assistance in emergency situations; Monthly food supplemental assistance for those with ongoing need Eligibility: FISH is chartered to provide food assistance to support low-income families and individuals. To be eligible to utilize the FISH resources, one must reside in the 95050 or 95051 zip codes. FISH, however, does not turn anyone away. In all cases, strict confidentiality is maintained. Cityteam San Jose - Dining Hall
Thousands of people in the San Jose area woke up today hungry and homeless. For the poorest of the poor among us, this is real life. Living under bridges, rummaging through trash cans for scraps of food and desperately searching for other ways to survive. Many believe they are a throw-away society. Here at the Cityteam Rescue Mission we restore hope, faith and dignity to the homeless who are easily overlooked in our community. Every night our guests at the Rescue Mission are provided with hot, homecooked food. A hot meal is often the first step to helping a homeless person get off the streets. Our dinning hall serves men, women and children every night starting at 5:00 PM. At Cityteam, our desire is to see lives transformed. Sometimes that process begins with a hot nutritious meal or a night's shelter. But at it's heart, this ministry is about coming alongside needy people and helping them rebuild their lives.

Community Outreach Ministry Endeavor (C.O.M.E.)
Feeding and caring for those in need in downtown San Jose, in the name of Christ, since 1981. Our Food Pantry: C.O.M.E.’s dedicated volunteers prepare individual bags with staple foods before we open our doors. Our clients can look forward to receiving staples such as rice, beans, and cereal, as well as canned and frozen goods. Fresh produce is given out at the back dock, where our clients can freely choose from a changing variety of fruits, vegetables, bread, snacks, and frozen goods. Our Clothes Closet: The C.O.M.E. facility’s second story houses our Clothes Closet. Our staff works with great care to sort, inspect, and then place each garment in its section. C.O.M.E.’s Clothes Closet is very popular as is often seen by the people gathered at its entranceway long before the doors open. Each month, thousands of donated garments are distributed to hundreds of people on a self-shop basis.

Recovery Café San José
Recovery Café is founded on the belief that every human being is precious, worthy of love and deserving of the opportunities to fulfill his or her potential. In this loving community people who cannot afford long-term recovery services will come to belong, heal and know themselves as loved. Sacred Heart Community Service - Louise's Pantry
Each day, staff and volunteers serve food to more than 400 families. We have two permanent food programs: a three-day supply called an emergency supplement, and an assortment of food for homeless customers that requires no prep or cooking. Customers can receive food twice a month. Each customer leaves with a grocery bag of nonperishable items, a 5 to 15 pound bag of produce, and a cold bag that consists of a meat product, eggs, a loaf of bread, and a package of tortillas. The agency also provides non-cooking bags to homeless customers and others who don't have a kitchen or are unable to cook. All the food in those bags are ready to serve and all cans have pop-tops that can be opened without a can opener. Pop-top protein items, such as meat soups and chili, are always a big need. Sacred Heart serves customers living in the following zip codes (which are subject to change): 95110, 95117, 95125, 95126, 95128 and 95134. Any customer not living in one of the above zip codes can come to Sacred Heart Community Service on a one-time basis for food. We then refer them to Second Harvest for additional services.

Drive-thru Food Pantries
Since the start of the coronavirus, drive-thru food pantries have become the safest, most efficient way to provide food to our struggling neighbors.
Who can visit a drive-thru pantry?
Drive-thru pantries are open for anyone who needs help getting food. There are no eligibility criteria. Visitors do not need to provide any identification or income statements.
Only two piece of information is asked
- You Zipcode, and
- Number of people in their family.
You dont need to take appointment. Drive-thru pantries are first-come, first served so plan to arrive early.
How do drive-thru pantries actually work?
There are lot of volunteers help at Drive-thru food pantries. While not all drive-thru pantries operate in the same way, here�s how most work:
Staff and volunteers direct visitors to the parking area.
Visitors pull up to the pantry in their car and are usually guided into a clearly marked queue. As people move through the pantry, staff will continue to move the cars forward to get everyone through as quickly and safely as possible.
Checkin.
You are required to fill some information for Pantry's recording keeping.
Food is loaded into the cars.
Pre-packed bags of food, usually full of shelf-stable items like pasta, canned fruit and peanut butter, as well as fresh produce and meats are loaded by volunteers into the trunk of the car.
Pet Food Pantry
One in four pet owners who give up their pets to a shelter say it is because they cannot afford to care for them. Pet Food Pantries are designed to fill the void in the nation�s current assistance programs that exclude the purchase of food and supplies for family pets.

Tips for Visiting a Food Pantry
Show up early.
This is very important. This means you will be first in line and have a chance to get the items that are sought after and in limited quantities such as fresh produce, dairy and frozen food.
You don't usually need to show up hours ahead of time but coming at least an hour before is usually a good idea.
Remember all documentation.
Many food pantries require documentation to prove who you are, and in some cases, where you live.
This is to make sure people are not coming more than they are allowed or using fake names to do so. Call ahead of time to find out what documentation is needed.
It's just your photo ID and a piece of mail that verifies your address.
Use several food banks.
Using more than one food bank (when available) is smart because you may be able to get something at one that you may not get at another.
For instance, one may have a deal with a local gardener that gives them their extras. This may mean this food bank has more produce.
Eligible for other programs?
Ask your Department of Social Services office if you are eligible for other assistance programs to supplement your household’s food supply.
They can easily tell you if you can apply for WIC (Women and Infant Children), USDA Commodities or SNAP(Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits.
Ask about extras.
If you have special needs for infants or special diets, the pantries may be able to assist you.
Many times, they can help with diapers, baby formula, baby food, personal hygiene products, and even special diet items like gluten free or sugar free foods.
Go on different days of the week.
Depending on the food pantry, they may be open only one or two days a week or they may be open all seven days. When you have a choice, going midweek is often best as it is less crowded.
Be polite to workers.
Nearly everyone at a food bank is a volunteer. Be polite to the workers there as they often deal with highly emotional situations.
